P90X Day 6: Kempo X DONE

We started P90X on Saturday.  So far, so good.  I'm sore and I feel like I'm starving all the time, but it's SOOOOO much better than the first time I tried to do it.  That was two years ago.  I had just quit smoking (after 17 years) and was basically in crap shape. I only got through about a month of P90X that time.  And it took like 2 months to do it.  And every day was misery.  I was not ready.  This time, it's tough, like it's supposed to be, but afterward, I don't spend the entire day wishing my muscles could be removed from my skeleton. There is also a great 90X app for iPhone (which I use on my iPad) which I use to track everything and it makes little charts and stuff.  I have to be patient, because I don't think I'll really lose any weight this first few weeks, because hopefully it's turning to muscles.  And i have to work harder to stick to the nutrition plan. The extra bites here and there throughout the day are probably counter-productive.  I'm just sooooo hungry!

The first phase only allows me one "carb" a day.  Though, in all fairness, they only count things like bread and rice as carbs, not fruits and veggies or the protein bar and such. Still, Phase 1 is mostly protein and water.  Mmmmmm...nothing fills me up like protein and water....

I'm trying to remember to take my vitamins each day.  I actually just choked them down.  They are these huge horse pill vitamins. And they taste funny.  But, vitamins are key, and I do love when I pee in fluorescent colors.

Fun with Heart Rate Monitors...

I've been wearing my heart rate monitor for all my P90X workouts.  The P90X documentation says that the average amount of calories burned per workout is like 600.  Since that is not nearly the case for me, I can only assume that they are basing that number on a 300 lb person doing P90X.  I can only hope that because I do the workout in the morning, I am burning extra calories during the day to get to that 600.

I am also curious about how many calories I actually burn in a day and my heart rate changes, so I've been wearing my heart rate monitor all day and will upload the results tonight to see. Good thing my watch has like an 8 hour battery life.  Though, I'm not sure if it can charge and track at the same time, so I may just be able to track 8 hours of my life. I'm sure i've burned all of 12 calories sitting at my desk all day.  Still it's fun.

I am Filled with Imaginary Roid Rage...

I'm very cranky.  I don't know if it's the lack of carbs in my life, the fact that I really want chocolate or if doing P90X has me so juiced that I'm suffering from imaginary roid rage.  DON'T MESS WITH ME OR I'LL ATTEMPT TO PICK YOU UP AND THROW YOU ONLY I'LL FAIL CAUSE I'M NOT THAT STRONG YET AND THEN I'LL BE EVEN MORE ANNOYED!

Just saying...

Jenn - You wouldn't like me when I'm hungry or angry...I've heard it both ways...

  1. well, heart rate monitors like that are not accurate for a "daily burn rate", just during workouts. You need something like Body Bug. But really... You can just use numbers at any calorie burn web site. I use this formula out of the Racing Weight book by Matt Fitzgerald:

    BMR 75.27 15 1129
    Deskwork 107.00 8 856
    Swim 605.00 0.5 302.5
    2287.5

so my Basil Metabolic rate is 75 calories per hour yo. I do that 15 hours a day :-) Desk work is 107 calories per hour, and I work 8 hours a day. Then I add into it my swim calories and it says on days I swim half an hour I need 2287 calories, give or take.

Good stuff! It's a good book. really.
